Vaidya was born on May 20, 1973, in Kathmandu, Nepal, to an Italian/Spanish-American mother and an Indian Gujarati father. Her parents transferred her to Oakland, California, when she was two years old. She began acting in plays and musicals at the age of eleven, as well as training in many types of dance, including tap, ballet, modern, and hip-hop. She went on to major in dance at UCLA and perform on scholarship at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in New York City. She graduated with a BFA in Theatre Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles. She currently resides in Los Angeles, where she supports herself with a profession in cinema and television.

Unforgettable
She plays Nina Inara in the television series Unforgettable. She is also a member of the NYPD homicide squad and a sarcastic, street-savvy cop.
