Jeremiah started his ministry in 1969, as a Senior Pastor of Blackhawk Baptist Church Fort Wayne Indiana. He served as a Senior Pastor for 12 years until he moved to California in 1981. In 1981, he took the place of Tim LaHaye as the senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church. His leadership at the church led it to be affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
