David Anders role on The Vampire Diaries
Holt played John Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries TV series. A significant recurring character and adversary of The Vampire Diaries’ first and second seasons was Jonathan “John” Gilbert II. He is the biological father of Elena Gilbert and the younger brother of Grayson Gilbert. When Isobel Flemming came to Mystic Falls before to her transformation into a vampire, he met her and fell in love. John left town for a while after she turned, then returned to Under Control. He was a Town Council member. John and Alaric Saltzman each have a ring that keeps the wearer from dying from a paranormal attack. These rings were inherited by John and Grayson. John donated his ring to Isobel, his first love interest, who in turn gave it to her husband, Alaric.
John received Grayson Gilbert’s ring upon his death. He and Isobel plotted to kill the tomb vampires on Katherine’s orders when he initially returned to Mystic Falls. Elena discovered he was her biological father at that point. Katherine tried to assassinate him when he finished his work, but it didn’t work, so John departed. He came back with Isobel a few months later to assist in defending Elena from Klaus. After Klaus killed Elena, John offered his own life to save her. However, in order to do so, he required a witch to tie his soul for her, and Bonnie volunteered to perform the ritual.
John was a town council member, a member of the Gilbert family, and a relative of the Petrova family. John Gilbert, who was close to his brother Grayson Gilbert, developed feelings for Isobel and assisted her in giving birth to her child. John accepted the position of father even though he wasn’t ready, but he eventually identified the biological father. While his brother took care of Isobel and kept her safe from vampires, John carried on his vampire hunting. When Isobel was transferred to a vampire that she detested even more than he did, John felt enraged. Following his brother’s passing, John intends to rid Mystic Falls of vampires.

Anders appeared as Blaine DeBeers on the CW’s iZombie. The main antagonist of the show is a zombie named Blaine. Twice, at the conclusion of Season 1 and again in Season 2, Blaine has been cured. It is he that turned Liv into a zombie during the boat party. Blaine, who ran the butcher business Meat Cute in the first season, tricked wealthy people into becoming zombies so he could blackmail them by demanding $25,000 a month in exchange for brains.
Once a zombie, Blaine now owns Shady Plots Funeral Home and operates an underground brain delivery business in Seattle. He causes retrograde amnesia for himself by injecting himself with Ravi’s second attempt at a zombie cure. He becomes into Peyton’s romantic interest and her friends’ uncomfortable ally. Blaine’s most notable achievement was turning Harrison Graves, the creator of Filmore-Graves, into an indirect creator of New Seattle by constructing Zombie Island. Blaine is thrown down a well with Don Eberhard at the conclusion of Season 5, having no regrets about turning people into zombies. He has no genuine feelings of companionship and prefers being a zombie. Blaine is a power-hungry, avaricious man who was a drug dealer before becoming the head of the zombie underworld. He comes out as charming, crafty, and manipulative. After receiving his second treatment, he pretends to be amnesic in order to start over as a better person.
