O’Neil dabbled in radio in the early 1990s, appearing on the Osso Booko Show on Melbourne community station 3RRR from 1992 to 1997. On Sundays, he shared hosting duties with Vic Plume and Alan Parkes for the one-hour sketch comedy show. He also worked on the RRR Breakfast team alongside Kate Langbroek and received regular phone calls from Dave Hughes.
In December 2001, he joined Melbourne’s then-new radio station Nova 100 to host the top-rated Hughesy, Kate & Dave breakfast show. In July 2006, he left Nova for Vega 91.5, where he co-hosted the breakfast show Dave and Denise with Shaun Micallef. In 2007, Ian “Dicko” Dickson and Chrissie Swan joined Denise Scott on the show, while Shaun Micallef left.
Chrissie Swan left the breakfast team when Vega 91.5 changed its name to Classic Rock 91.5 in 2010. However, on July 15, 2010, Ian “Dicko” Dickson and O’Neil were let go from Classic Rock 91.5.
From 2017 to 2022, O’Neil was a frequent guest and fill-in for Sam Pang on Nova 100’s breakfast show Chrissie, Sam & Browny. In the 2007 Australian federal election, O’Neil ran as an independent for the federal seat of Gellibrand in Melbourne’s industrial and portside inner western suburbs, which included Williamstown, Newport, Spotswood, Footscray, Braybrook, Altona, and parts of Altona Meadows and Laverton. He garnered 2.3 percent of the vote.
