Daryn Kagan is a former CNN news anchor and broadcast journalist from the United States. From 1994 to 2006, Kagan worked as an anchor and correspondent for CNN in Atlanta, Georgia, at CNN’s corporate headquarters.

For eight years, she hosted CNN Live Today from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Eastern Time. She also hosted the CNN/People news entertainment show, People in the News, and previously worked as a CNN sports reporter and anchor. Kagan sent out hundreds of demo tapes after graduating from Stanford. Kagan was hired for an on-air position at KEYT-TV in Santa Barbara. Kagan’s next job was as a general assignment reporter at KTVK in Phoenix. She took on the role of weekend sports anchor in addition to her weekday reporting duties because she wanted to do something other than report typical local news stories.
After KTVK did not renew Kagan’s contract, CNN/SI president Jim Walton hired Kagan as a sports anchor and correspondent. She went on to cover events such as the Super Bowl, the NBA Playoffs, and the Russian international figure skating championships. Kagan was later hired by CNN’s news division from CNN Sports and became a main CNN news anchor and correspondent. Kagan reported on presidential and midterm elections after becoming a CNN news anchor. During the second Gulf War and the investigation into the Washington, D.C., sniper attack, she reported live from the Middle East. Kagan traveled to Africa with musician Bono, where she reported for all CNN networks on AIDS and famine. Kagan kept a daily blog on CNN.com while in Africa.
Kagan was one of only a few national news anchors who were on the air live during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. She reported throughout the day and later covered the unfolding story from CNN’s Atlanta headquarters and the network’s Washington, D.C. bureau. After CNN refused to renew her contract, Kagan left the company on September 1, 2006, to launch DarynKagan.com. For the first time, Kagan discussed leaving CNN with US News & World Report in November 2006. On November 13, 2006, Kagan launched DarynKagan.com. According to the Boston Globe, Kagan’s website is “bucking the media tide with an emphasis on stories that illustrate the triumph of the human spirit.”
DarynKagan.com content has expanded to television news documentaries, radio, and books. Her first television film, Breaking the Curse, aired on PBS and was nominated for a Gracie Award for Outstanding Documentary in 2008. Kagan produced and narrated the film, which told the story of a modern-day American woman fighting for those suffering from leprosy in India. What’s Possible!, Kagan’s first book, was published by Meredith Books in 2008 and was described by the Associated Press as “stories about people who overcame obstacles to achieve dreams. Her next film, Solartown USA, is about a Wisconsin town that pledged to use solar energy in the 1970s. Beginning in March 2009, DarynKagan.com content was broadcast on SIRIUS XM radio by Oprah Radio.
