She is best known for replacing Vivian Bunker on the NBC comedy series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from 1993 to 1996, after Janet Hubert-Whitten left the role of Vivian Banks. She joined the show shortly after the fictional character Nicki Banks was born after Hubert Whitten’s contract was not renewed at the end of the third season. Prior to this, she had roles in a variety of television shows, including Simon & Simon, Frank’s House, and Snoopy.

She had a recurring role as JT’s mother Frances Hunter on the UPN comedy Eve, and later as Juanita Lawrence on the BET comedy Let’s Stay Together. Reed is also an accomplished photographer[3], designer, and costume designer. Reed served on the board of directors of the National Student Film Institute in the 1980s and 1990s. She is the recipient of the Women’s Vision Award from Women in Film and Video, among other awards. In 2022, she starred as Board Member Helen in the ninth episode of Bel Air, a major revival of The Fresh Prince. She owned and operated New Millennium Studios in Petersburg, Virginia, until 2014. He also served on the Virginia State University Board of Visitors for eight years. He was elected in July 2008.
