He successfully auditioned for Diff’rent Strokes and was cast as Sam McKinney, a role he has played for the past three seasons. He also portrayed Kevin Cavanaugh in The Cavanaughs, Bobby Budnick in Salute Your Shorts, John Connor’s friend Tim in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the title character in The Further Adventures of SuperTed, Montana Max in Tiny Toon Adventures, Milo Kamalani in Pepper Ann, Jack Spicer in Xiaolin Showdown, and the title character in Dave the Barbarian. He also voiced Francis Stone/Hotstreak in the animated series Static Shock for Kids on the WB. In 1996, Cooksey voiced one of his most well-known characters, Stoop Kid from Hey Arnold! (Stoop Kid was a satire of Cookery).
Cooksey was the lead singer for the band Bad4Good. In 1992, they issued a single CD called Refugee for Interscope Records. He was also a part of Lucy’s Milk in 1996, and is the most famous member of the band Arbuckle (2004–2013). In 2015, Cooksey collaborated with the Western band Shelter Dogs, supplying guitar and vocals, and the album Take Me Home was released in March 2015, with all of the tunes written or co-written by Cooksey.
