Career
Dan Rea previously worked as a news reporter on WBZ-TV, the CBS affiliate in Boston, from 1976 to 2007, where he won two Regional Emmys and received nine nominations. He also played a minor role in the film Reversal of Fortune. His current radio employment is a return to WBZ Radio, where he was on air while attending Boston University School of Law in the 1970s. Rea was a conservative activist “…serving as national vice chairman of Young Americans for Freedom and opposing Richard Nixon’s re-election as president in 1972 on the grounds that he was too liberal.” More recently, Rea has classified his political beliefs as libertarian conservative.
Rea spent four years attempting to clear the name of Joe Salvati, who was falsely convicted of murder. Rea found information that cleared Mr. Salvati’s name, and he was released from prison. Rea received the Massachusetts Bar Association’s First Annual Excellence in Journalism Award for his reporting on the case. The Massachusetts Criminal Defense Lawyers Association recognized Rea for his services in the Salvati case. In June 1988, Rea received Boston University Law School’s “Silver Shingle” award for excellent public service. In November 2010, Rea earned the “Yankee Quill Award” from the Academy of New England Journalists and the New England Society of Newspaper Editors.
