Ashley took over for anchor Richard Brown on the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts in June 1996. Ashley was given an inside glimpse inside the White House in February 2013 when there for a one-on-one interview with President Barack Obama. Ashley also interviewed George W. Bush, General Colin Powell, Rob Reiner, Tom Brokaw, Rahm Emanuel, and Ben Carson. Ashley is the ABC7 (KGO-TV) in San Francisco’s longest-serving major male news anchor. Ashley was the last announcer on the air when Hurricane Hugo hit Charleston, South Carolina in 1989. In 2005, he reported from Poland on the March of the Living, which included Holocaust survivors from the Bay Area.
Ashley got the prestigious DuPont Columbia and Edward R. Murrow Awards while working in the news in Charleston. Ashley was recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences San Francisco/Northern California Chapter’s Silver Circle in 2015.
