Anstey began his radio career in 2007 as a member of Brisbane’s Nova 106.9 promotional street crew, which also included Scott Tweedie. He co-hosted the Nova 106.9 breakfast program with Ashley Bradnam, David Lutteral, and Camilla Severi in 2011. When Kip Wightman returned to the station in 2012, Anstey was relocated to “The Dan Anstey Show,” which aired weekday afternoons, before returning to Melbourne sister station Nova 100 as the anchor of the breakfast show Hughesy & Kate.

Anstey began giving short film reviews on Reel2Reel, a film review show broadcast by Brisbane community television station Briz31 (now Queensland Online TV), in 2007. Since 2010, he has been a regular contributor to The Project, reporting from Brisbane, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast. Anstey co-hosted the Nine Network television series ManSpace with Shane Jacobson and Dale Vine in 2014. He has hosted two seasons of the show, with a third in the works.
Anstey joins Weekend Today as a weather presenter in January 2022. In 2011, he co-hosted the internet series Add a Motor to it with Leon Murray. The show showcased a variety of motorized common goods, including a couch that set the world record for fastest sofa at 163 km/h (101 mph).
