Reucassel was a founder member of the satirical multi-media organization The Chaser team, working on their satirical newspaper as well as ABC TV series such as The Election Chaser, CNNNN, The Chaser Decides, and The Chaser’s War on Everything. He has been one of The War’s major presenters from the premiere episode. He and his wife Keisha have three children, and their son Ollie has appeared in some of The War’s drawings. Former Prime Minister John Howard was frequently confronted on his daily walks by Reucassel, most notably in the axe stunt (see below).
Craig Reucassel Speedos incident
On March 19, 2007, at a campaign appearance for the New South Wales State Election, then-opposition leader Peter Debnam was challenged by Reucassel, who was dressed in Speedos and a baseball cap and mocked Debnam’s campaign appearances in swimwear. Reucassel stayed for the news conference but received no response from the opposition leader, and was snubbed again when he went to shake Debnam’s hand.
Craig Reucassel The axe stunt
Reucassel responded to a news article on August 2, 2006, about a private school student who hugged then-Prime Minister John Howard while wielding a screwdriver during one of Howard’s daily walks. To put the Prime Minister’s security measures to the test, he approached Howard on a morning walk with a huge plastic combat axe and begged for a hug. Reucassel did get the embrace, but a later attempt while carrying a running chainsaw did not go as well. There was great dispute over whether they should use the chainsaw and whether they would be shot. An unsuccessful effort between the axe and the chainsaw was cut from this segment, in which Reucassel was holding a four-point-star mace.
