Peña The Enemy Within

Peña appeared as Anna Cruz, a junior CIA analyst who works as a mole for Tal in the American drama television series The Enemy Within. A recurrent antagonist from NBC’s first season of The Enemy Within was named Anna Cruz. Identified in the pilot episode as one of three victims of infamous terrorist Mikhail Tal, Anna Cruz worked as a financial analyst for the CIA. It is thought that Tal killed her to stop them from looking into his money and the stock market explosion. But by the middle of the episode, it was clear that Anna was truly alive and being held captive by Victor Nemec, one of Tal’s allies. FBI agent Will Keaton then spearheaded the effort to free Anna. The expedition was made possible with assistance from Erica Shepherd, a former CIA Director of Operations who was found guilty of treason for providing Tal with the identities of CIA agents operating against him. Tal had threatened to kill Erica’s daughter Hannah.

Traitors like Anna, who at first thanked Will for saving him, turned out to be a mole for Tal. To conceal her role, she seemed to be upset and lied about his plan. When Anna discovered that Victor was a captive, she used a wire to kill him, giving the impression that he had committed himself. Anna continued manipulating Will in “The Ambassador’s Wife” and “Confessions,” causing confrontation with Erica, who suspected her of being a mole for Tal. After Anna discovered Tal’s files, Will accused Erica of reading the documents. Erica, however, disclosed that Anna had deceived her into disclosing her involvement in “Havana.”
