Following a storm, they discover a body, a wooden chest, and gold bars. Thomas suggests burying the body and stealing the gold, but the foreigners, Locke and Boor, arrive and question them.
Donald murders Locke and cuts Boor, while James murders Locke. Another invader is killed by James, who is reminded of his son. The men are torn apart by stress and suspicion, with James going insane and secluding himself in a church. Donald grows apprehensive and insists on taking the gold with them. James imprisons and strangles Thomas in the pantry, but Thomas subdues him. They load the riches onto the boat, and James admits his involvement.
