Colm Hayes The Colm Hayes Show
Hayes then hosted the 11-1 show, which followed Ryan Tubridy’s Tubridy show, which replaced Ryan. Hayes gained listeners in the JNLRs in 2011. On 11 November 2011, RTÉ reported that Hayes earned €213,954 from the organization in 2009, making him the ninth highest income. Jim-Jim, who was paid less than half this amount before leaving RTÉ, was said to be “shocked” to learn of this, describing it as a “mystery,” a “betrayal,” and implying that “RTE is run like Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.”
Hayes does have a singles night every now and then. He wrote the song “Put Your Green Cape On” for Jedward’s UEFA Euro 2012 single. It was announced in December 2016 that he would cover for John Clarke on Radio Nova 100 for three weeks that month.
Colm Hayes Breakfast Show
Hayes and James “Jim-Jim” Nugent enjoyed a 10-year radio partnership, beginning with The Strawberry Alarm Clock on FM104, where the pair established themselves as Dublin’s number one breakfast program. The team relocated to RTÉ 2fm to headline The Colm & Jim-Jim Breakfast Show. Following Nugent’s inclusion to The Strawberry Alarm Clock in 2000, the show thrived, with the pair dominating the Dublin timeslot and winning multiple prizes.
In 2007, the pair joined RTÉ 2fm to anchor the breakfast show, purportedly at the request of Gerry Ryan, who was concerned about the chaotic breakfast slot preceding his show, which had been characterized by low listenership. In 2011, it was claimed that RTÉ had paid payments of roughly €500,000. Their departure from FM104 was contentious, with the pair being taken from the station’s headquarters and barred from using the “Alarm Clock” reference in their new show, which was renamed The Colm & Jim-Jim Breakfast Show instead.
While initial listenership was robust, an overall fall in data for breakfast demonstrates that, with Ireland’s declining economic fortunes (and, as a result, fewer commuters), the pair did not have the same success as previously. However, the team made their television debut with Colm and Jim-Jim’s Home Run, which was taken up for international distribution.

Nugent left the station before the redesign, declining a new time slot and returning to FM104.
