On December 18, 2008, NBC announced that Todd would succeed Gregory as NBC News Chief White House Correspondent, collaborating on the news beat with Savannah Guthrie. He kept his position as NBC News Political Director while also becoming a Contributing Editor to Meet the Press. Todd was the subject of a Los Angeles Times article in August 2008, which compared Todd’s rise to the rise of cable news networks in coverage of US politics.
