Taylor debuted on the Nickelodeon children’s television series Hey Dude in 1989, playing lifeguard Melody Hanson.  She remained in that role until 1991, making several guest appearances on other shows. Taylor was cast as Marcia Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie in 1995, followed by A Very Brady Sequel. Following The Brady Bunch Movie, Taylor made several comedic guest appearances on Ellen before landing the lead role in Party Girl, based on the 1995 film of the same name, and more guest appearances on Seinfeld and Friends.

Later, she appeared as a guest star in two episodes of Arrested Development as “Sally Sitwell in 2005, and in an episode of NBC’s My Name Is Earl in 2006. Taylor’s husband, Ben Stiller, announced plans to direct a CBS sitcom starring Taylor in July 2006,[8] but the series never aired. She co-starred in both Dedication and License to Wed with Mandy Moore. Taylor appeared as a guest star in Hannah Montana Forever in 2010. She also appeared in the Hallmark Channel Christmas film Farewell, Mr. Kringle in 2010. Taylor returned to the role of Sally Sitwell in two episodes of Arrested Development in 2013.  She also appeared as the villain Gail Lundquist on Elementary in 2017.
