Chris Rock is an American comedian, actor, and director who rose to notoriety in the 1980s with his stand-up performances, which addressed topics such as race relations, human sexuality, and observational comedy. He was named fifth on Comedy Central’s list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time. He is placed fifth on Rolling Stone’s list of the 50 Best Stand-Up Comics of All Time.

His mother, Rosalie (née Tingman), worked as a teacher and social worker for individuals with developmental impairments, while his father, Julius Rock, drove a truck and delivered newspapers. Rock is the eldest of his parents’ seven children (six boys and one girl), and his older paternal half-brother, Charles Ledell Rock, died in 2006 from alcoholism. Rock’s younger brothers, Tony, Kenny, and Jordan, are all in the entertainment industry.
