Spencer was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and raised in Montana, Kooskia, Lapwai, and Lewiston, Idaho. He has two younger sisters. His ancestry includes Lakota, Nez Perce, Cherokee, Muscogee, French, and Dutch. He is a Lakota Sioux who has enrolled in the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes of Montana through his mother. Spencer graduated from Clearwater Valley High School in 1994, using the name James Spencer. As a teenager, he began acting in shows at the Lewiston Civic Theatre.

Jessica Jones
He played Jace Montero in Jessica Jones’ episodes AKA Hero Pants and AKA Hellcat. Jace Montero was a property developer who used arson to demolish buildings in New York City and construct his own facilities. The majority of Montero’s arsons ended in civilian deaths, leading to his involvement in Erik Gelden’s blackmailing operation. Trish Walker eventually confronted Montero and murdered him.
To put his construction ideas into action, Jace Montero purchased several buildings in New York City and destroyed them through arson. However, Montero’s flames killed more than fourteen people, so he had to keep it a secret. Later, Montero got a vague, anonymous note from someone who claimed to be aware of Montero’s criminal activities.
The guy asked that Montero leave him money or they would disclose all he did, so Montero agreed. Malcolm Ducasse contacted Montero and inquired about his present circumstances; nevertheless, he was not pleasant when chatting with him.
Echo
He also played Henry “Black Crow” Lopez in Echo. He was interviewed for the documentary Assembled’s episode, The Making of Echo. Henry “Black Crow” Lopez is William’s brother and Maya’s paternal uncle. After Taloa Lopez died, Henry brought William and Maya to New York City. After William died, Kingpin ordered Henry to return to Tamaha, where he did nasty tasks. Maya eventually returned to Tamaha and attempted to dismantle Kingpin’s kingdom. Henry refused to get involved at first, but after he was kidnapped himself, he began to help. He subsequently collaborated with Maya to bring down Kingpin and the Black Knife Cartel.
Henry Lopez grew up alongside his brother William Lopez. He stayed in Tamaha for a short time, owning Black Crow’s SkateLife, before leaving to NYC. After learning of William’s wife’s death, Henry offered him a position in New York City. William consented since Chula Battiest blamed William for her daughter’s death and wanted the family to leave Tamaha. After Wilson Fisk killed William in 2021, Henry attempted to overthrow Fisk’s rule. Henry was compelled to return to Tamaha in order to manage Fisk Shipping after Fisk threatened him.
