Chapman worked as a desk assistant for WTAE after graduating from New Castle High School and Pitt-Greensburg, doing everything from operating the assignment desk to creating newscasts. She left WTAE for nearby WYTV-TV in Youngstown, where she received her first experience of being in front of the camera as a reporter, because she wanted to be on the broadcast. Chapman then went to WTOV-TV in Steubenville, where she got her first taste of anchoring as well as field reporting.
Chapman moved on to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she won multiple promotions and eventually became the weekday anchor for WMBF-4 TV’s p.m. and 5:30 p.m. newscasts. Chapman claimed it was the appropriate time for her to return to her birthplace because she was expecting her first child at the time. Chapman joined the WTAE family for the second time in October 2017, and it didn’t take long for her to win some Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy Awards.
In 2018, Chapman and WTAE producer Mary Davies won the Team Coverage Award for “Search for a Killer,” and Chapman and former reporter David Kaplan and chief meteorologist Mike Harvey won the Weather—News Single Story or Series Award for “February Tornado.” Chapman has been covering stories as a reporter for Pittsburgh-area audiences for the past four years, but anchoring is something she enjoys even more.
Chapman had been a fill-in anchor for a few years, but when the station was looking for the perfect 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekend anchor, she jumped at the chance. Viewers have described Chapman as a “calming voice” on the anchor desk, as if she is speaking directly to them.
