Emily was introduced to the Simpson family by Terrence when he brought them to his home.Emily looked down on individuals who bottle fed their babies, so Marge was startled to learn that Emily only breastfed Corduroy and that she was always making up reasons not to breastfeed Maggie. Emily invited Marge and the other mothers inside T-Rex’s birthday celebration. Marge attempted to bottle feed Maggie while hiding behind an apron, while all of them were nursing their infants. After Maggie knocked over the bottle, the other mothers saw and attempted to nurse Maggie themselves.

She remained antagonistic toward Marge and her feeding practices when Ned attempted to reunite the family. She was taken aback, though, when Marge’s bottle formula extinguished the Devil Donuts truck’s flames. The whole family moved out after Terrence realized Springfield was no longer a cool place to hang out.

Brownstein Band

Brownstein made friends with Corin Tucker, Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail, and Becca Albee while attending Evergreen. She co-founded Excuse 17 with Albee and CJ Phillips, one of the original bands of the Olympia music scene’s riot grrrl movement, which was crucial to the development of third-wave feminism. Excuse 17 frequently traveled with Heavens to Betsy, Tucker’s band. Both bands added tracks to the compilation Free to Fight. As an afterthought, she and Tucker founded Sleater-Kinney, which went on to record the split single Free to Fight with Cypher in the Snow.

After Heavens to Betsy and Excuse 17 broke up, Brownstein and Tucker founded the band Sleater-Kinney, which released its debut self-titled album in 1994. Before Janet Weiss joined the group in 1996, the band traveled with a number of drummers. After putting out six more studio albums, they took an indefinite sabbatical in 2006. No Cities to Love, Sleater-Kinney’s upcoming album, was revealed by Brownstein in 2012, along with the band’s early-2015 tour dates. “Bury Our Friends,” the band’s debut single, was made available for free MP3 download. While Stereogum Chief Editor Tom Breihan dubbed the band the greatest rock band of the last two decades, critics such as Greil Marcus and Robert Christgau considered them one of the key rock groups of the early 2000s.

With Rebecca Cole, previously of The Minders, Janet Weiss, and Mary Timony, Brownstein announced her most recent endeavor, the band Wild Flag, in September 2010. A year prior, she said, “I started to need music again, so I called on my friends and we joined as a band.” Since chemistry cannot be produced or coerced, Wild Flag was only a “maybe” or “possibility.” But I think we all realized that we could be more than the sum of our parts after a few practice sessions spaced out across several months.” [Update required] In September 2011, they released an album of the same name.
