Carol Thatcher Biography

Carol Thatcher is a journalist, author, and media personality from England. She has written biographies of both of her parents and directed a documentary about her father that included his only public interview. She was the winner of the fifth season of the reality show I’m a Celebrity… I Need to Get Out of Here!

She is 69 years old as of August  2022. She was born Carol Jane Thatcher on 15 August 1953 in Hammersmith, London, England.

She graduated with a law degree from University College London.

Thatcher had a relationship with Jonathan Aitken, which ended in 1979.

From 1977 to 1979, Thatcher worked as a journalist for the Sydney Morning Herald in Australia. She worked as a TV reporter for Channel Seven in Sydney, and later as a reporter for its morning news show, 11 AM. She returned to the UK and worked as a presenter for LBC, BBC Radio 4, TV-am, and as a travel writer for The Daily Telegraph. Many newspapers refused to publish work with her mother’s byline due to her mother’s high-profile political position. Diary of an Election: with Margaret Thatcher on the Campaign Trail, her first book, was published in 1983.  Three years later, her second book, Lloyd on Lloyd, a collaboration with tennis player Chris Evert Lloyd, was published. It went on to become Thatcher’s first best-seller.

Below the Parapet, a best-selling biography of her father was published later. In 2003, Thatcher produced the documentary Married to Maggie for Channel 4. Thatcher recorded Denis Thatcher’s only public interview during his lifetime; he died shortly after its release.  Thatcher’s freelance work has included articles for magazines and newspapers, as well as television appearances. [In November 2005, Thatcher was chosen to appear on the ITV television show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! with a number of other celebrities. The show’s format required her to spend at least a week in the Australian rainforest with a minimal supply of food and basic living conditions.

On 13 February 2007, Thatcher appeared as a celebrity guest on Living TV’s Most Haunted alongside presenter Yvette Fielding, medium David Wells, and Joanne Gregory to investigate paranormal activity at Tatton Hall in Cheshire. Thatcher was a freelance contributor to the BBC One magazine show The One Show from 2006 to 2009, making filmed reports and joining the presenters and guests in the studio for discussions. On 3 February 2009, British media reported that Thatcher had referred to a black tennis player, reportedly Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, as a golliwog during the 2009 Australian Open in a conversation in the show’s green room. Thatcher referred to Tsonga as “half-golliwog” and “the golliwog Frog,” according to The Times.
