From 1977 to 1979, Thatcher worked as a journalist for the Sydney Morning Herald in Australia. She worked as a TV reporter for Channel Seven in Sydney, and later as a reporter for its morning news show, 11 AM. She returned to the UK and worked as a presenter for LBC, BBC Radio 4, TV-am, and as a travel writer for The Daily Telegraph. Many newspapers refused to publish work with her mother’s byline due to her mother’s high-profile political position. Diary of an Election: with Margaret Thatcher on the Campaign Trail, her first book, was published in 1983. Three years later, her second book, Lloyd on Lloyd, a collaboration with tennis player Chris Evert Lloyd, was published. It went on to become Thatcher’s first best-seller.
Below the Parapet, a best-selling biography of her father was published later. In 2003, Thatcher produced the documentary Married to Maggie for Channel 4. Thatcher recorded Denis Thatcher’s only public interview during his lifetime; he died shortly after its release. Thatcher’s freelance work has included articles for magazines and newspapers, as well as television appearances. Thatcher referred to Tsonga as “half-golliwog” and “the golliwog Frog,” according to The Times.
