Carmen Dominicci Career
Dominicci first appeared in commercials on television in the late 1980s. She has represented Puerto Rico in a number of beauty pageants and international modeling competitions throughout the United States and Europe. She pursued a career in television, first in theatrical plays and then in television miniseries, but she abandoned that path to devote her full attention to her journalism studies. She married Puerto Rican actor Osvaldo Ros in 1989, and they had a son, Giuliano Ros Dominicci. In 1993, she and Osvaldo divorced. Carmen Dominicci rose to prominence in Puerto Rico as a news reporter on the Tele-Once Channel and later as a presenter on WAPA-TV’s prime time newscast in the 1990s.
In 1998, she signed a contract with Telemundo 47 in New York as a news anchor, a position she held for four years and in which she covered major events such as President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial, President George Bush’s inauguration, and the 9-11 attacks on the Twin Towers, among others. Dominicci joined the Univision network as a presenter of the “Primer Impacto” news program, where she worked for three years and also hosted the night edition. Among her outstanding coverages were Pope John Paul II’s death (broadcast live from Rome, Italy), and the investigative series “Infierno Animal” and “Tragedia en Jiman” about the tragic landslide that killed over 400 people.
Carmen Dominicci and Rolando Nichols took over as hosts of the network’s flagship news program “TeleFutura en Vivo y en Directo” in October 2005. Carmen returned to Univision the following year as a correspondent for the investigative show “Aqu y Ahora,” where she remained until 2009. In 2007, while she was working on “Aqu y Ahora,” Univision’s sister network, Galavision, created the journalistic talent show “Misión Reportar,” and Carmen was chosen as the host due to her credibility. The journalist married her former “Primer Impacto” coworker, Fernando del Rincón, the same year, but the couple divorced in 2008.
In 2011, she became a co-host and correspondent for the “Al Rojo Vivo” news program, as well as a member of Noticias Telemundo’s special investigative team, where she won several awards for the special “Muriendo por Cruzar,” about immigration at the Mexican/American border. She also interviewed many well-known people, including soccer star David Beckham. Carmen Dominicci’s desire to travel the world prompted her to make a complete career change. After leaving Telemundo in December 2015, she started her own travel blog, “Carmen Dominicci Trotamundos,” with the slogan “Travel the world through my eyes.” The journalist’s goal, after 23 years of reporting hard news, is to show well-known and hidden tourist destinations.
