Whelan’s debut stand-up comedy album, Ain’t It Cool?, was released on January 27, 2015, to critical acclaim. The Laugh Button called the album “one of the best albums of 2015”,while The AV Club wrote: “Isn’t this great? Sometimes manic, sometimes honest, sometimes ridiculous. Brooks, unlike the sketches, tells jokes and has a knack for storytelling; he finds universal truths in examining his own life. ) appeared on the evening program together.

Wheelan is a regular guest on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment, using his stand-up comedy as a public service announcement against unacceptable behavior. In the Bruce Willis/Katy Perry episode where the meaningless tattoo was commented on, Whelan revealed three tattoos from her youth: On her right arm, there is a group of people resembling “Red Hot” Anthony Kiedis of the Chili Peppers; on her right arm, a nautical star; and on her side, a strange sea (this is from a doodle she drew in college, which meant nothing to her because she grew up in Iowa, not a coastal state). The Anna Kendrick/Pharrell Williams episode features the dangers of drinking, how she buttered her friends’ pants while drunk, and the Whelan Storyline, which features an unprecedented sexual encounter that would lead to her death.

On July 14, 2014, Whelan announced on Twitter that she was no longer a cast member of Saturday Night Live, stating, “Saturday night in New York!” Shortly after being fired, Whelan admitted that she was not bitter and was still friends with some of the cast members, adding that she enjoyed stand-up comedy. Each episode features a guest interviewed about their experiences, usually low-paying or unglamorous, before eventually finding success in the entertainment industry.
