Brittani Nichols is an American producer, actress, comedian, and writer. Brittani has appeared on two Emmy-nominated television shows: Transparent and A Black Lady Sketch Show. She is presently a producer and writer for ABC’s Emmy-winning hit series Abbott Elementary.

Brittani Career

After college, Nichols moved to Los Angeles and created the web series Words With Girls (2012), which she later rewrote as a pilot for ColorCreative.tv, a venture by Denise Davis, and starred Issa Rae and Dennis Design. The series follows a group of queer roommates in their twenties living in Los Angeles, and stars Nichols, Corbin Reed, Hannah Hart, Alex Stormare, and Lauren Neal. In 2016, Nichols wrote, produced, and starred in the all-female black comedy Suicide Kale. Nichols has said in an interview that she plans to make a lesbian film that “isn’t about coming out, sleeping with a guy, or a character dying at the end.” Both “Words With Girls” and “Suicide Kale” draw on Nichols’s experience as a lesbian, and she has stated in interviews many times that she is committed to increasing LGBTQ and African-American representation in the media. Suicide Kale won the Outfest Audience Award for Best American Album.

She has appeared on several television programs, including The Black Women Sketch Show, Take My Wife, and Transparent. Nichols was a writer for the first season of the HBO series Black Lady Sketch Show. She also wrote for “The Stranger,” “Get on the Mic,” and “Take My Wife.” She served as an executive producer on The Circle and Get Thoughts alongside Jonathan Van Ness. In 2020, it was announced that Nichols would be producing the “Toothbrush” series for Quibi by ColorCreative; however, Quibi closed before the show could be created. She is a writer and producer on the ABC comedy Abbott Elementary and was signed by CAA. In 2016, Brittani Nichols released a five-song EP titled Likes You. Nichols previously hosted The Twosome podcast with Ariana Lenarsky, as well as The Hamilton Podcast with Khalehla Rixon. Nichols is also the Western Captain of the Writers Guild of America.
