Brown made her debut on-screen appearance in an episode of the NBC sitcom Freaks and Geeks in 1999, and she has since been in other films and television series. She appeared in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Smallville, Entourage, Without a Trace, The Closer, Joey, and Criminal Minds as a guest star. She has appeared in the horror flicks Night of the Living Dead 3D (2006) and Timber Falls (2007) as the lead actress. Brown also appeared in the horror film The Lost Tribe, as well as the comedies The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, both directed by Judd Apatow. Brown played Lisa Niles in the ABC daytime soap series General Hospital from 2010 to 2011. Later that year, she starred as Lynne Reed in the Showtime drama Homeland.
Brown was recruited as a series regular in the first season of the prime-time comedy-drama series Devious Maids in 2012. Her character was killed off after season one, but she reappeared in the third season. Brown was cast as a regular in the ABC drama pilot The Whispers in 2014, alongside Lily Rabe and Milo Ventimiglia. Brown’s departure from The Whispers was revealed on June 11, 2014, and her role would be remade. Later in her career, she appeared in Revenge, The Mentalist, Graceland, and NCIS: New Orleans. Brown was cast as Claudia Blaisdel in The CW’s Dynasty, a revival of the 1980s series of the same name, in 2017.
