Early Career

His career began on stage, with roles in numerous plays and musicals. In 2007, the 40 year old actor starred as Tybalt in Shakespeare in the Park’s production of Romeo and Juliet. He appeared in Tarell Alvin McCraney’s trilogy of plays, titled The Brother/Sister Plays. In 2011, Henry received further success as a part of the original cast of the musical The Book of Mormon. The guest appearances she made that year was in the television series Law & Order, The Good Wife and Boardwalk Empire.

The American actor made his film breakthrough in 2018 with starring roles in Steve McQueen’s Heist Film Widows, Barry Jenkins’ romantic drama film If Beale Street Could Talk, and the animated superhero film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Before that, in 2016, Henry received critical acclaim and recognition for his starring role as Alfred Paper Boi Miles in the FX comedy drama series Atlanta. For his performance in the series, he received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. From 2016 to 2017, he appeared as Tavis Brown in the HBO comedy series Vice Principals.

Then in the year that the breakthrough came, which was 2018, he starred in the Broadway revival of Lobby Hero, which earned him a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. The next year, 2019, Tyree co-starred in the psychological thriller films Joker and Don’t Let Go as well as the horror film Child’s Play, the latter being a remake of the 1986 film. In 2021, he starred as Bernie Hayes in Godzilla vs Kong alongside Millie Bobby Brown and Julian Dennison and as Phastos in the Marvel Studios film Eternals.
