Kevoian Career
Kevoian started his radio career in 1979 at WMBN in Petoskey, Michigan, after working as The Young Americans’ sound engineer for three years while they were on the road. That continued until Kevoian joined the cross-town WJML in 1982, where Bob and Tom co-hosted a daily morning show. Kevoian remembers, “We were there for 12 to 18 months.” One of the most popular morning shows on syndicated radio was paired with radio personality Kevoian, who worked as a bartender at Bar Harbor in Harbor Springs, Michigan, during the day. The Long Beach State University alum claims, “In small town radio, you needed to supplement your income by doing anything.” “Tom ordered a drink at Castle Farms in [nearby] Charlevoix following a J. Geils concert.
Another guy who worked in country radio was at the end of the bar.”The two radio talents were talking about the inferior nature of their respective stations’ cart machines.”I told Tom I was doing middays when he overheard us and inquired if we worked in radio,” recalls Kevoian. “Tom stated that he worked in radio for a year in Florida, but he was unemployed and wished to visit the station to see the trades. It was very insane when he was hired as my PD two days later.”
They received a 44 percent rating share, so the competition created a tape mix of their greatest segments and delivered it to the Superstars Convention, an assembly of 300 station program directors, where it was broadcast. Offers began to come in from all over the nation. For the 2004 home video The Bob and Tom Show, he wrote the screenplay, directed, produced, and scored the credits. Kevoian took part in the programs that were recorded in Anderson, Indiana for Bob and Tom Radio: The Comedy Tour. More than 15,000 “bits” utilized in Kevoian’s program are his own creations, some of which are even his original ideas.
