Mitchell’s first notable film role was at the age of 15, in The Crow: City of Angels, when she played Grace, a young drug addict. During the filming of the 1996 film, she unsuccessfully auditioned for the role of Mary Camden in the new family drama 7th Heaven. She then auditioned for the role of Sister Lucy and was cast. Mitchell appeared briefly as a customer in Moody’s Point on The Amanda Show in the year 2000. In 2003, she portrayed Erica Enders-Stevens in the Disney Channel original film Right on Track, which was based on the early career of the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Pro Stock champion and her sister Courtney Enders, played by Brie Larson.
Mitchell took a break from filming 7th Heaven in 2005 to play Laura Hunter in the horror thriller Saw II. Her debut country album, self-titled, was recorded in 2006. She co-wrote eight of the album’s songs, including “Angel,” which is about a buddy who died in a vehicle accident when they were teenagers. Mitchell featured in the 2007 Lifetime television film I Know What I Saw. In 2010, Mitchell played school counselor Katelyn O’Malley on the third season of The Secret Life of the American Teenager. In March 2016, she was cast in the film Pop Hollywood Darlings, alongside fellow 1990s child actresses Jodie Sweetin and Christine Lakin. The series premiered on April 12, 2017.
