Ben Career

Roy’s stand-up comedy career began in early 2004 when he participated in Comedy Works Rookie Night, where he was joined by singer Josh Blue. In the summer of 2010, Roy was invited to perform in the “New Faces” section of the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, and was invited back to perform on the 2012 Nasty Show. He has been selected to perform at the Boston Comedy Festival, the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, and the MTV Comedy Showcase. He has also appeared on John Wenzel’s book Mockstar: Indie Comedy and Dangerously Funny, on HBO’s Funny as Hell series (alongside comedians such as Patton Oswalt and Fred Armisen), and on the Comedy Central show Adam Devine’s House Party.

His debut stand-up album, I Got Demons, was released in 2012 and was named one of the ten best comedy albums of the year by Laughspin. His second stand-up album, “No Enlightenment in Sobriety”, was released on April 15, 2014. Roy recorded his third stand-up album at Comedy Works on March 8–11, 2015. Early in his acting career, Roy met Denver comedians Andrew Ovidal and Adam Cayton-Holland. The trio formed Grawlix after performing together for several years. The group performs monthly at The Bug Theater in Denver, featuring performances by all major artists, many national artists, and appearances on The Grawlix, a website created by the Nicks Brothers.

Grawlix also teamed up with the Nicks brothers to create a pilot for Amazon in June 2012 called The Impossible, about three Denver teachers with no talent. When Amazon ultimately lost the pilot, TruTV paid the trio to write and rewrite the series in December 2014. TruTV continued to air “Impossible” for 3 more seasons between 2016 and 2019. The show was eventually canceled on April 24, 2019. Roy has said that he has been in “16 or 17 bands since I was 16”, including Denver punk bands 29th Street Disciples and The Fire Drills. Roy currently leads the band SPELLS, which he formed in 2012 with guitarist Chuck Coffey, bassist Don Bersell and drummer Rob Burleson. The quartet play a powerful, musical style that they call “rock rest”. Many digital albums are available for download, and previously unreleased tapes are available
