On Broadway, he has appeared in Ragtime, Billy Elliot the Musical (for which he received a Helen Hayes Award), Tuck Everlasting, Mean Girls, and West Side Story. He has also appeared in two national Broadway tours, Billy Elliot the Musical and Newsies the Musical, as well as episodes of 30 Rock, House of Cards, Veep, Law & Order: SVU, and the HBO film Paterno. He most recently appeared in the 2021 film adaptation of West Side Story as a Jet and as Henry in the HBO Max horror series Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin (2022-present).
Cook appeared as a kid in various shows in Washington, D.C., including those at Ford’s Theatre and the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts. At the age of eleven, he made his Broadway debut in Ragtime at the Neil Simon Theatre, understudying and portraying the role of Edgar (The Little Boy). His next Broadway role was Tall Boy in Billy Elliot the Musical at the Imperial Theatre, and he also played Michael and Billy in the production’s North American National Tour. On May 19, 2013, he gave his final tour performance as “Billy” in Las Vegas, Nevada.
From the age of 16, he toured for a year and a half as Race and occasionally as Crutchie as an understudy in the first national tour of Newsies the Musical. Cook left that tour in January 2016, after over 500 performances, to join the original Broadway cast of Tuck Everlasting. Previews began in March 2016, and the show finished in May of that year. Cook joins the cast of Mean Girls, a musical adaptation of the film. Its pre-Broadway run began in October 2017 at Washington, D.C.’s National Theatre. In April 2018, the production made its Broadway debut. He was supposed to play Riff in the 2020 Broadway revival of West Side Story.
Cook featured on television as young Jack on 30 Rock in the episode “Chain Reaction of Mental Anguish” (2010); and as Walt in the HBO series Veep episode “The Choice” (2014). In “Chapter 27” of the Netflix series House of Cards (2013), he plays Heather Dunbar’s kid.[19] In the episode “Great Expectations” (2017) of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, he played Adam Turner. Cook reprised his role as Race in the film adaptation of Newsies, which was released in limited theatres in February 2017 and later on Netflix. He starred in the HBO film Paterno in 2018. He also played Mouthpiece, a Jets member, in the 2021 film adaption of West Side Story.
