Bear Grylls ( born Edward Michael Grylls) is a British explorer, writer, television host, and entrepreneur. After a series of exploits, Grylls gained notoriety, and his television series Man vs. Wild (2006–2011) made him a household name. He also appears in a number of outdoor survival television shows in the United Kingdom and the United States, including Bear Running Wild and The Island with Bear. At the age of 35, Grylls was named Chief Scout of the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories, a position he has held for a second time since 2015.
