Du Bois completed a carpentry and joinery apprenticeship in 1976 and received a building certificate in 1980. In 1979, he was coached by modelers and started planning and building homes as a theoretical developer. Du Bois ran a successful design, construction, and property development company until he retired in 2005. During that time, he was Leader of the Expert Manufacturers Relationship of NSW Eastern Rural areas and affirmed as a specialist building observer in NSW courts and the Division of Fair Exchanging council.

In 2011, Du Bois was the host of the renovation reality show The Renovators on TEN. Du Bois joined Amanda Keller, Chris Brown, and Miguel Maestre on the lifestyle show The Living Room on Network Ten in 2012.
