Ashley Spencer is an American actress, singer, and dancer who competed in the 2007 NBC show Grease: You’re the One that I Want! She was Barbie’s understudy on the Barbie in Fairytopia tour, where she sang and performed ballet.

Hairspray
Spencer debuted on Broadway in July 2007 as Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray, replacing Brynn O’Malley. On July 13, 2008, she gave her farewell performance as Amber in the Broadway musical after a year. She was succeeded by Aubrey O’Day. She returned to the part of Amber in The Muny’s production of Hairspray in St. Louis from August 3-9, 2009. She reprised the role in the Pittsburgh CLO production of Hairspray, which ran from July 20 to August 1, 2010.
Grease
Spencer was announced on June 25, 2008, to replace Laura Osnes as Sandy in the Broadway version of Grease. She debuted on July 22, 2008, alongside Derek Keeling as Danny. Keeling was also a runner-up in Grease: You’re the One I Want. The manufacturing ended on January 4, 2009.
Career
Spencer was known as “Ballerina Sandy” due to her ballet training. She made it to the finals, finishing second behind Laura Osnes. Spencer played Éponine in Les Misérables at the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, which ran from July 7 to 19, 2009. She played Amber again in The St. Louis Muny’s production of Hairspray in the summer of 2009.
She returned to Pittsburgh CLO in 2010 to play Niki Harris in Curtains, which ran from June 22 to June 27, 2010. Spencer later portrayed Ulla in The Producers and at Paper Mill Playhouse, before reprising her role as Amber in Hairspray.
Spencer returned to CLO in 2014 for the performance of Singin’ in the Rain, where she played Lina Lamont.From November 7, 2017, until January 14, 2018, Spencer played Polly Baker in Crazy for You at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia.
Spencer played one of the Divas in the Broadway production of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, which premiered at the Palace Theatre in March 2011.The production also had a pre-Broadway tryout beginning October 12, 2010, at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre.She took over the part of Sherrie in the Broadway production of Rock of Ages from Emily Padgett on May 10, 2012, and was replaced by Kate Rockwell, a fellow “You’re The One That I Want” contestant, in January 2013.
