Ashley worked as a research assistant for Mississippi State’s state climatologist, on projects ranging from “Economic consequences of weather on industry” to “Dissecting the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale as it relates to coastal damage.” Ashley’s love of weather dates back to her childhood in Birmingham. You may recall Discovery Place (the precursor to the McWane Center). Ashley tried her hand at becoming a meteorologist for the first time at the age of five. Ashley has pursued storms across the Great Plains and the Southeast as a National Weather Service Storm Spotter. Ashley was the Chief Meteorologist for Alabama News Network in Montgomery, Alabama, until recently.
She previously worked as a weathercaster for Atlanta’s 11Alive (WXIA), Montgomery’s CBS 8 (WAKA), and Meridian, Mississippi’s WTOK. She also worked at KLKN in Lincoln, Nebraska, and WSAV in Savannah, Georgia, honing her forecasting skills. Ashley’s mission is to keep the public informed about extreme weather, hazards, and how to make life-saving decisions. Ashley was on the board of the Lighthouse Counseling Center and was an active member of the River Region Boys & Girls Club. She was also a member of EMERGE, Montgomery’s Young Professionals club. She intends to become more involved in Birmingham and serve the community.
