Diaz began his career as a reporter for WPLG-TV in Miami in the early to mid-1970s, then moved to WCBS-TV in New York in the mid-1970s and early 1990s. Diaz received 25 local Emmy Awards during his stint at WCBS. Throughout his career, he has received a total of 48 Emmy trophies. Diaz later worked as a Consumer Investigative Reporter for ABC’s 20/20 from 1995 until 2003. He won the National Press Club Consumer Journalism Award and the Consumer Federation of America Media Service Award during his stint with 20/20.
In 2003, he returned to WCBS and reintroduced the Shame On You part, which he did until 2006 when he moved to WNYW, where his program was renamed Shame, Shame, Shame. Diaz was inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1995. Diaz said in January 2014 that he will no longer be working for WNYW-TV. Diaz joined WPIX as part of the newly formed “PIX11 Investigates” section on March 31, 2014, alongside longtime reporter Mary Murphy and chief investigator Howard Thompson.
