Melchiorri’s first job in the hospitality industry was as a night auditor at the Embassy Suites in Overland Park, Kansas. After ten months, he was hired as a night manager at New York City’s Plaza Hotel.[Citation required] Over the next four years, he rose through the ranks to become Director of Front Office Operations. When an 11-year-old girl asked him, “Mister, where’s Eloise?” he and Randee Glick created the hotel’s Eloise tour. He was named general manager of the Lucerne Hotel on New York City’s Upper West Side. The Lucerne was named the New York Times Travel Guide’s Best Service Hotel under his leadership.
He left the Lucerne in 2005 to become the general manager of New York’s historic Algonquin Hotel. He oversaw a $15 million full renovation of the building and its image, restoring it to the glory days of the famous Algonquin Round Table, after convincing the owners to close the Algonquin for 29 days. He renovated the rooms, repositioned the restaurants, and earned the hotel a Michelin Guide Hotel rating. He oversaw publicity campaigns such as the Algonquin’s “$10,000 Martini,” won a “Best of Show” award from the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International, and promoted the renovated hotel overall. He assisted in the management of the Nickelodeon Hotel and Resort. He rose through the ranks to become the first vice president of Tishman Hotels and, later, the senior vice president of New York Hotel Management.
Melchiorri then established Argeo Hospitality, a hotel management and consulting firm. Melchiorri was an executive producer on Alyssa Milano’s 2008 Lifetime cable film Wisegal. Melchiorri’s idea for a hotel-improvement show was developed with fellow Wisegal executive producer Leo Rossi, whom he knew from the hospitality industry. It was adapted into the Travel Channel series Hotel Impossible. In each episode, a hotel has problems that he and his team must solve in less than a week. The show premiered in 2012 and lasted eight seasons. He was the host of Extreme Hotels for two seasons.
