Anthony Dias Blue is a Los Angeles, California-based author, columnist, television and radio personality, and owner of a food and wine event organization. Blue has a long-running feature place on New York City’s WCBS radio.

Blue has a long-running feature place on New York City’s WCBS radio. The feature’s focus was on restaurant reviews and lifestyle topics, mostly related to food. Later, the program was expanded to include wine reporting. The item, now known as the Blue Lifestyle Minute, has been shown every day for more than 30 years (except for the two weeks following 9/11). In 2001, Blue got a James Beard Award for the Minute. In 1999, KFWB in Los Angeles began airing a separate, localized version of The Blue Lifestyle Minute. This segment was moved to KABC in 2009, along with the addition of a new weekend show named “The Taste Buds” co-hosted by Meridith May and Merrill Schindler.

The San Francisco International Wine Competition, the largest international wine competition in the United States (almost 4,500 wines entered in 2017), was acquired by Blue. Blue founded the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2000, which has grown to become the world’s second-largest spirits competition. With over 2500 entries in 2017, it is the largest in the United States. Blue was appointed West Coast Editor of Food & Wine magazine in 1978. In 1980, Blue joined Bon Appétit Magazine as Wine and Spirits Editor, a post he kept for 26 years. He also published a weekly syndicated wine column in the Bay Area. Blue spent ten years writing and editing the Zagat Guide for Northern California for his buddy Tim Zagat, with whom he went to Riverdale.

Patterson’s Beverage Journal, a 65-year-old beverage trade newspaper that was renamed The Tasting Panel, was purchased by Blue in 2007 in collaboration with Publisher Meridith May. It has grown to be the most widely distributed beverage industry newspaper. The Tasting Panel bought The Sommelier Journal in December 2013, with Blue as the new Editor-in-Chief and a team of renowned wine and hospitality industry writers. The revamped publication’s debut issue was distributed in the spring of 2014. Blue now leads one of the country’s most successful wine and culinary event providers, delivering huge trade tastings, wine seminars, lunches, and dinners for wineries and wine associations worldwide. Blue also worked as a color commentator on the short-lived reality television series Iron Chef USA in 2001.
