Anne Burrell Restaurants
Burrell stayed in Italy after the ICIF experience, working in various restaurants for nine months. She worked at La Bottega del ’30, a modest Tuscan restaurant with only one seating per night. Burrell returned to the United States to work as a sous chef at Felidia, which is owned by celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich. She was hired as the cook at Savoy, a tiny prix fixe restaurant. Burrell began teaching at the Institute of Culinary Education after leaving Savoy. Joseph Bastianich, Lidia Bastianich’s son and restaurateur, and Chef Mario Batali chose Burrell chef for Italian Wine Merchants, their New York wine boutique. The Batali link would help her career much more.
She later became the senior chef of Centro Vinoteca, a 2007 Italian restaurant in New York City’s West Village. Due to her hectic schedule and numerous responsibilities, she departed the restaurant in September 2008. Because both restaurants are part of the Mangia Hospitality Group, her departure meant she would not begin at Gusto Ristorante. Burrell intended to start her own restaurant in New York City in 2010. Burrell opened Phil & Anne’s Good Time Lounge in Brooklyn in the spring of 2017, but it has since shuttered as of late April 2018.
Anne Burrell Iron Chef
Iron Chef Mario Batali recruited Burrell, along with chef and restaurateur Mark Ladner, to serve as one of his sous chefs for a pilot recording of Food Network’s Iron Chef America series in 2005. Throughout his time on the show, she remained his sous chef. Burrell also finished fourth in the Food Network culinary program The Next Iron Chef in 2011, being removed in week six of the competition.
Anne Burrell Career
The Food Network series Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, hosted by Burrell, premiered on June 29, 2008. In 2009, she appeared on The Best Thing I Ever Ate, a Food Network show in which chefs remember their best foods.
Burrell and Chef Beau MacMillan hosted the Food Network reality series Worst Cooks in America in 2010. Burrell and her co-host take participants through a “culinary boot camp” to help them become better cooks. On January 3, 2010, the first season premiered. Chef Burrell triumphed in the challenge when her recruit, Rachel Coleman, defeated MacMillan’s recruit, Jenny Cross.
Chef MacMillan was replaced by Chef Robert Irvine for the second season, which began on January 2, 2011. To up the stakes, Irvine and Burrell arranged a side bet in which Burrell gambled on losing her characteristic hair and Irvine gambled on going platinum. When her recruit, Joshie Berger, beat out Irvine’s recruit, Georg Coleman, Chef Burell won both the challenge and the side bet. Worst Cooks in America’s third season premiered on February 12, 2012. Season three’s new co-host/chef was Bobby Flay. Chef Burrell won the challenge once more when her recruit Kelli Powers defeated Flay’s recruit, Vinnie Caligiuri. The fourth season premiered on February 17, 2013. Flay’s squad finally defeated Burrell’s team in season four, when his recruit, Alina Bolshakova, edged out Burrell’s recruit, Rasheeda Brown.
