Cohen began his television career as an intern at CBS News. He worked for the network for ten years, eventually becoming the senior producer of The Early Show, a producer for 48 Hours, and a producer for CBS This Morning. In 2000, he joined the television network Trio, and in 2004, when the network was purchased by Bravo, he became vice president of original programming.

Cohen has appeared on the Today Show, Morning Joe, and The View, as well as co-hosted Live! with Kelly and The View. He has appeared as a guest on a number of other talk shows.
