Covert made his film debut as a barman in ‘Going Overboard’ in 1989. Following that, he starred in ‘Heavyweights,’ a comedy about a gang of overweight adolescents who are taken over by a fitness expert. He appeared in the films ‘Happy Gilmore’ and ‘The Cable Guy’ in 1996. Two years later, he starred as Sammy in the romantic comedy ‘The Wedding Singer,’ alongside Adam Sandler. The picture was a smashing success, grossing $123.3 million worldwide on a $18 million budget. Covert then appeared in the films ‘Never Been Kissed,’ ‘Late Last Night,’ and ‘Big Daddy,’ all of which were released in 1999. The next year, he played as Todd in the unsuccessful film ‘Little Nicky’.
