Her background in acting led to small roles in Mike Figgis’ Liebestraum in 1991 (in which her brother Ian also appears), the Gen-X drama Bodies, Rest & Motion (1993), and the TV movie The Disappearance of Vonnie. Witt landed her first lead role in a film in 1994, playing a disturbed, murderous adolescent in Fun, for which she received the Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Recognition Award. Witt was then cast as Madonna’s lover in Four Rooms.
Witt made her stage debut in Robbie Fox’s musical The Gift in 2001, at Los Angeles’ historic Tiffany Theater, as a high-priced, albeit disease-carrying, stripper. During her residency in the UK in 2004, she played Evelyn in Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things at the New Ambassadors Theatre. Her new album, which she co-produced with Jordan Lehning and Bill Reynolds, is currently being recorded. It was titled The Conduit and was set to be released in September (24th in most regions) of 2021. Witt released two new Christmas songs in 2020, which can be heard in her new Hallmark Christmas movie, Christmas Tree Lane. On-screen, her character, music-store owner and songwriter Meg, performs “Why Christmas” and “Christmas Will Never End.”
