Alex Dyson Career
Dyson announced his candidacy for the Wannon seat in the 2019 Australian federal election in 2019. His campaign was brief, but it did include an innovative video in which he articulated his core policies through interpretive dance. The video gained tremendous media coverage both in Australia and around the world. Despite the minimal campaign, Dyson received 10.3% of the vote, despite the fact that the seat has been considered a safe Coalition seat since the 1970s. Dyson opened the Comedy Republic live comedy club in 2020, right at the start of the global COVID outbreak.
On 7 January 2022, Dyson announced his candidacy for Wannon in the 2022 federal election, standing on a platform of climate action, integrity and respect in Parliament, and investment in the regional economy. Voices of Wannon, one of a large number of grassroots community groups supporting independent candidates around Australia in the 2022 election, endorsed his candidacy. Dyson was defeated by Dan Tehan by a margin of 19.29% in the first choice vote count and 46.08% in the two candidate preferred vote count.
