He began his career by editing the Harvard Political Review and contributing to an American Heritage-sponsored history blog. Burns joined the Politico staff in 2008. He joined The New York Times in 2015 to cover politics for the Metro desk before being named political correspondent in time for the 2016 presidential election. Burns has also been a guest on Morning Joe. He left the New York Times and will return to POLITICO in the fall of 2022.
