Alec Mapa is a writer, comedian, and actor from America. When he was chosen to take B. D. Wong’s place as Song Liling in the Broadway production of M. Butterfly, he had his first break in the industry. His appearances as Vern on Desperate Housewives, Suzuki St. Pierre on Ugly Betty, and Adam Benet on Half & Half helped him become well-known. On Switched at Birth, Mapa reappeared as Renzo.

Mapa role on Switched at Birth
In the first episode of Switched at Birth Season 3, “Drowning Girl,” Renzo makes an appearance as a recurrent character. Renzo struggled to come out to his family despite growing up in a Christian home. He currently resides in Kansas City and is involved in numerous hobbies, such as drum circles and tap dance.
Kathryn receives an invitation to John’s dinner party after Renzo persuades her to try tap dancing in Drowning Girl. Renzo doesn’t stay for dinner, and John finds out Kathryn lied about going to a state dinner with him. Renzo takes Kathryn to New York to meet with his buddy, a publisher, in the novel Have You Really the Courage?
Renzo and Kathryn organize a celebration for Kathryn’s book contract in The Scream, which quickly becomes into a murder mystery party. Renzo assists John in setting up a synchronized family dance in Dance Me to the End of Love in an attempt to win Kathryn back.
Kathryn accuses Renzo of leaking books in Love Seduces Innocence, Pleasure Entraps, and Remorse Follows, but he subsequently pardons her. Kathryn attempts to set Renzo up with Leo in Girl With Death Mask (She Plays Alone), but it doesn’t work out. In Bracing The Waves, Kathryn talks with Renzo—a short Asian man with thick glasses and spiky black hair—about her book being adapted for the big screen. Renzo dislikes children but is enthused about Kathryn’s hobbies, which include dancing, shopping, and her sexual novel.
Mapa role on Half & Half
Mapa is the out gay assistant to Mona, who occasionally makes advances on Spencer. He is a great gossip and enquirer. A character in the UPN sitcom Half & Half is named Mona Rose Thorne. The parents of Mona are Charles and Phyllis Thorne. Though they have a nice connection overall, she finds her mother unpleasant most of the time, especially when she shows up at her place without warning. But Mona has a tense connection with her father.
Mapa role on Ugly Betty
On Ugly Betty, he played Suzuki St. Pierre. Initially, Suzuki St. Pierre served as our one-man Greek Chorus, offering commentary on TV’s “Fashion Buzz” on the lives of those who exist within the realm of mode. But in the process of preventing a public relations disaster, Betty and Daniel learned that the flashy Suzuki is actually the created alter ego of suburban New Jersey-based married father of two, Byron Wu.
In the “Sisters on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” episode, Betty unintentionally sends Suzuki photos from Daniel and Molly’s vacation. When Betty rushes to ask Suzuki to return the images, he tells her that he will be airing the news on the show the next day. Later, Amanda and Betty persuade Suzuki’s ex-boyfriend to provide them with information about Suzuki, including his New Jersey address. When Daniel and Betty get to the address, they find out that Suzuki is actually a married father of two children. They also learn that “Suzuki St. Pierre” is a television persona and that Byron Wu is his true name instead than Suzuki St. Pierre. Betty uses blackmail to get Byron to promise to keep Daniel’s secret as private as his own, but she is able to convince him not to release the pictures.
Mapa role on Doom Patrol
In Doom Patrol, Mapa played Steve Larson/Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man.Steve Larson is a man who visited Heinrich Von Fuchs in Fuchtopia in Paraguay and returned with superpowers. After an unsuccessful attempt at armed robbery, he transformed into a hybrid of an animal, vegetable, and mineral, earning the moniker Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man.
Unknown man Steve discovers about Fuchtopia and saves enough money for “The Morden” operation. A less costly operation that gives him “Magnet Feet” to climb walls is later chosen by him. In Paraguay, he meets up with pals Cliff Steele, Jane, and Larry Trainor. There, they attend a puppet performance that tells the story of Heinrich Von Fuchs. Steve is placed in a chamber for too long after a confrontation with Von Fuchs, which causes him to undergo severe physical alterations. He obtains green and leafy veggies, a purple animal claw, a purple dinosaur head, and claw-like fingers. His bicep and left leg are still human.
When Steve’s dinosaur head bites him during an attempted robbery at a convenience store, he drops the gun and passes out. He is taken into custody and accused of armed robbery. Because of his peculiar physiology, he is dubbed “Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man” by the media. The attempted heist captured on security camera footage was later featured on the TV show World of Wut?
