Liaw posted via Twitter on September 29, 2009, that he was considering auditioning for the second season of MasterChef Australia. He was named one of the top 24 finalists in April 2010. Despite winning a task preparing celebrity chefs’ meals, Liaw doubted he had the technique to win the crown.
On July 22, 2010, Liaw became the first challenger to be awarded a spot in the grand finale. On July 25, 2010, he was declared the winner of the second season of MasterChef Australia, defeating Callum Hann in the final 89-82. On March 14, 2012, it was announced that Liaw would host his own food and travel television show, Destination Flavour. The show debuted in August 2012 on the SBS network. The series was likewise co-facilitated by Renee Lim and Lily Serna. Destination Flavour’s September 2013 itinerary: Japan debuted on SBS One with Liaw as the sole host; Destination Flavour followed the show: Australia in September 2014 Taste at Destination: Destination Flavour, which premiered in 2016 on SBS, was Scandinavia’s debut.
