Aaron Rasmussen is an Inventor, entrepreneur, and creator from the United States best known as the co-founder of MasterClass, an online education platform, USMechatronics, and Harcos Laboratories, as well as the founder of Outlier.org, a college-level education platform that provides online college courses.
Rasmussen has purposefully combined his creative and technical skills throughout his career. Rasmussen invented the world’s first sentry gun while studying at Boston University for a BS and a BA, garnering international attention on the Internet and a visit from the US Army’s experimental weapons research department in his dorm room. MasterClass was his first foray into online education, allowing people to pursue their interests through online classes taught by award-winning chefs, writers, and performers. And now, his company, Outlier.org, is redefining access to higher education by offering accredited online college courses.

Aaron created a sentry gun, which is a weapon that is automatically aimed and fired at targets detected by sensors. The first operational military sentry guns were close-in weapon systems point-defense weapons, such as the Phalanx CIWS, which were used for detecting and destroying incoming missiles and enemy aircraft, initially on naval assets but now also as land-based defenses.
