Wong was raised in San Francisco, California, by postal worker William D. Wong and supervisor Roberta Christine Wong (née Leong) of a telephone business. He has two brothers: a younger brother and an elder sibling. He has Hong Kong-based family and is of Chinese origin. Wong studied at Lincoln High School, where he played the main role in multiple school productions and fell in love with acting. In the 1970s, he continued his education at San Francisco State University, where he was the sole Asian American student in the theater department and could not find any acting parts.

Wong roles on Disney
He provided the voice of Li Shang for Disney in the 1998 animated feature Mulan, and he returned to the character in the Kingdom Hearts II direct-to-video sequel.In addition, he voiced Agent Will Du in Kim Possible and as Howard Weinstein in Father of the Bride and its sequel, Dr. Wong in The Ref. In addition, he returned to the role of Toad Liu Hai in the DuckTales World Showcase Adventure and voiced the character in the remake.
The tritagonist of Disney’s 1998 animated picture Mulan is General Li Shang.Shang is an army general’s son who wants to become the commander of “China’s greatest troops” like his father.When Shang is assigned to lead a motley crew of soldiers tasked with protecting China from Shan Yu’s despotism, his dreams come true.

An ancient spirit of luck and chance named Toad Liu Hai makes an appearance in the DuckTales reboot. Disguised as the manager of the House of the Lucky Fortune, Liu Hai tries to convince Scrooge McDuck into staying at the hotel. Still, McDuck and his family manage to flee. Rich duck Gladstone is stuck with his ball and chain. Liu Hai suggests that Scrooge replace Gladstone, and the two engage in a game. Donald triumphs and is taken prisoner by Liu Hai. But Liu Hai grows feeble and weak, making him remove Donald from the hotel and drag him through a portal.
Wong role on Gotham
Wong portrayed Hugo Strange on Gotham. Dr. Hugo Strange, the former director of Arkham Asylum and Chief of Psychiatry, was involved in human experiments at Indian Hill. He was formerly Thomas Wayne’s employee at Pinewood Farms and a lecturer at Gotham University. Strange investigated the possibility of reviving the program after his experiments caused it to be shut down, but he believed it would not be viable without Thomas. Bruce Wayne became an orphan as a consequence of his hiring the hit that killed Thomas and Martha Wayne.
“The philosopher,” Hugo Strange, was raised by an abusive father who beat his mother every night. Hugo was given control of Pinewood Farms, a center dedicated to treating human illnesses, following the passing of his father. But Hugo’s experiments on humans to create monsters resulted in the project’s termination. Thomas Wayne stopped Hugo’s hired bandits from breaking into Wayne Manor two months before the Waynes passed away. Hugo decided to permanently remove Thomas after Karen Jennings killed a man who was pursuing Thomas. To kill Thomas and his wife Martha, Hugo recruited The Lady, who in turn engaged Matches Malone, a hitman. Hugo regretted what he had done when the couple and their son Bruce were slain. A number of suspects were engaged in the case, including Mario Pepper and dishonest billionaire Dick Lovecraft.
