Cutty notes in “Simone” that he is “a leader in the ‘Defund The Police’ movement” and that he had served time in jail for unrelated crimes. When Simone tells him that an FBI probe led to his exoneration, he replies that the FBI attempted to undermine Black Lives Matter and civil rights movement leaders.

Cutty refuses to shake Officer Nolan’s hand when it is first extended, demonstrating his mistrust of the LAPD as well as law enforcement in general.
