In 2001, he appeared on the Varsity Show and met Jenny Slate, who would become a future stand-up comedian and writing partner in the comedy duo Gabe and Jenny. The cast also includes television writer and creator of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever Lang Fisher, actress Michelle Collins, Emmy-nominated stage actor Brandon Victor Dixon, Executive Director and Upworthy co-founders Peter Koechley and Robby Mook. After college, Lidman worked as a sales assistant at Barneys New York during the day. He and Slater worked nights at theater parties around town and eventually attended Williamsburg’s critically acclaimed music festival with comedian Max Silvestri. After a final performance in New York City in 2015, the trio eventually took the show to Los Angeles and Washington DC.
Lidman landed her first writing job as a staff writer on the Inside Amy Schumer writing team in 2013. He also served as a writer and showrunner on Nick Kroll’s “The Kroll Show” from 2013 to 2015, and worked on the first three seasons of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” from 2013 to 2016. Obvious Child movie starring Jenny Slate and Jake Lacy. He is the executive producer of the series Broad City and created Malltown USA with actors Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson. The series follows a 13-year-old boy as he navigates the complexities of life in a department store, a classic microcosm of American culture. Lidman became the producer of PEN15 in 2018. In 2019, Netflix ordered ten half-hour episodes of Q-Force, an adult drama series written by Lidman and produced by Michael Schur and Sean Hayes. The series was released on Netflix in 2021.
