Longworth began You Must Remember This, a podcast, in April 2014, covering lesser-known Hollywood tales from the early to mid-1900s. So date, the Panoply network, in collaboration with Slate Magazine, has distributed 189 episodes, all of which have been written and narrated by Longworth. The Washington Post referred to it as “knowledgeable and laceratingly funny,” and it has since become one of the most popular film podcasts.
The podcast received a five-star rating from Podcast Magazine. The program was a nominee in the 2017 Academy of Podcasters Awards and won the “TV & Film” category in 2016. The unfinished biography of Academy Award-nominated production designer and film producer Polly Platt served as the inspiration for the most talked-about series on the podcast to date.

She was a founding member of the film culture blog Cinematical, previously served as editor of both SpoutBlog and Cinematical, and was a regular guest on Public Radio International’s The Takeaway program while residing in New York. She worked at LA Weekly as the chief critic and film editor from 2010 until 2012.
In addition to contributing to several online outlets like Slate, IndieWire, The Daily Beast, HuffPost, The Village Voice, and Vanity Fair’s Little Gold Men blog, Longworth has also written for a number of print magazines, including New York Magazine, Filmmaker, Time Out New York, Cineaste, and Las Vegas Weekly.
In the documentary For the Love of Movies: The Story of American Film Criticism, Longworth, who was then a web reviewer for SpoutBlog, discussed the benefits of blogging and how it fosters a conversation with viewers. “I have a Master’s Degree in Film Studies, but I’m no more qualified to blog than a high school student in Vermont,” she continued while speaking about blogging. Variety stated, “…it’s the ever-proliferating bloggers – Spout, Cinematical, Movie City News and Hollywood Elsewhere – that have become the instant barometers for how a film plays,” while the New York Times referred to Longworth as “freakishly smart.”
In 2007, Variety reported, “As the pool of well-paid print critics shrinks in size, the next generation of film fans may come to trust critic/bloggers like … Spout’s Karina Longworth, who helped to create the major film blog Cinematical” . The New York Times made a statement, “Are print critics really so all-important and sacrosanct with the Web full of debates about all manner of film in places like indiewire.com, cinematical.com and blog.spout.com?”
